September 2011 Update
As most of you may have heard, IFLA had announced at the recently concluded WLIC 2011 that the venue for WLIC 2013 would be Singapore! Yes, after quite a number of tries, LAS has finally managed to convince IFLA to bring the event to Singapore. But what does this means to the libraries and librarians in Singapore?
Opportunity – imagine librarians from all around the world would be paying us a visit. So it’s time to plan some budget to spruce up our libraries as we would need to put up a good showcase of ourselves. Singapore will be put into the limelight and we only have 2 years to prepare ourselves. It is also a good opportunity for us to take stock of what are our achievements and LAS will be planning to publish a book about Libraries and Librarians in Singapore. This also mean there is opportunity for you to participate in this project – those of you interested please drop a line to me @ publications@las.org.sg
We are still on the lookout for institutional journalists whom can contribute to news about what’s happening at your libraries and to librarians around you – please help in this endeavor as it would certainly help keep all of us up to date and in touch with each other!
Oh, yes, before I forget – Happy Teachers Day! – yes we have members who have taken on the mantle of teachers and trainers in our industry – they are responsible for training our future librarians.
