It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Ms Sylvia Yap Swee Beng on 9 August 2025.

Ms Sylvia Yap served the library profession with distinction. She was President of the Library Association of Singapore (LAS) from 2005 to 2007, a board member of the National Library Board from 2005 to 2009 and the National Archives of Singapore Board from 2009 to 2011, and Chairperson of the LAS Professional Development Scheme Board in 2009. In recognition of her decades of service, leadership, and dedication to advancing the profession, she was honoured with the LAS Lifetime Contribution Award in 2018.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family during this difficult time. May she rest in peace.

The funeral will be held tomorrow, 11 August 2025, at St Mary of the Angels Church, Bukit Batok.
