New Faces of 2025 LAS Council (Part 2)

LAS has welcomed some new faces to its 2025 Council! We asked our new Council members to take a quiz to discover which Singaporean drink matches their personality. So, grab your favourite cuppa and let us meet the people who will be stirring things up in Singapore’s library scene! This is the final part of our two-part “New Faces of 2025 LAS Council” series; check out Part 1 here.

Mr Salihin Mohammed Ali

LAS Hon. Secretary

Institution: Singapore Management University, Senior Manager (UX & Tech)

Singaporean drink personality: Bandung

What is accurate about you from the results?
Quietly rebellious, calmly distinctive but firm when the situation calls for it.

How would you relate the Bandung traits to your term as a LAS Council member?
I hope to be a part of collective efforts that bring meaningful and purposeful outcomes.

Ms Phoebe Lim

Chair, LAS Training and Development Committee

Institution: Nanyang Technological University, Lead (Library Development)

Singaporean drink personality: Bandung

What is accurate about you from the results?
I must say that it is quite accurate. I do not think that I avoid conflict, but I do not actively look for fights either.

How would you relate the Bandung traits to your term as a LAS Council member?
I do want what my committee members and I do to be meaningful. I often question the status quo, although I am learning to appreciate conventional wisdom. I am idealistic at the core but will adopt pragmatism as a way forward.

Ms Fa’izah Bte Ahmad

Chair, Programmes and Engagement Committee

Institution: National Library Board, Deputy Director/Principal Librarian (Early Literacy)

Singaporean drink personality: Teh C Kosong

What is accurate about you from the results?
I am indeed fuelled by tea. I love all sorts of tea from Pu-Er tea, to green tea to herbal teas and they are all unsweetened. 😊

How would you relate the Teh C Kosong traits to your term as a LAS Council member?
My role allows me to channel my natural inclination for connecting with others into creating diverse opportunities for our members to learn, grow and build lasting relationships. Whether it is planning heritage walks that uncover hidden stories, organising wellness activities that help us recharge, or facilitating workshops and learning journeys that spark new ideas, I would like to work closely with our dedicated programmes and engagement team to ensure each programme delivers value to our members.

Ms Sarah Ruslan

Chair, Publicity Committee

Institution: Singapore Institute of Technology, Librarian

Singaporean drink personality: Bandung

What is accurate about you from the results?
The empathy and authenticity traits really resonate with me. I tend to lead with care and try to make space for others’ voices, while staying true to my own values. I am not always the loudest in the room, but I like to think my strength lies in connecting with people and creating an environment where they feel seen and heard.

How would you relate the Bandung traits to your term as a LAS Council member?
Like Bandung, I hope to bring warmth, creativity, and a dash of fresh perspective to the Council table. I am motivated by the “rosy dream” of creating meaningful connections and visibility for LAS, and I approach publicity with empathy and authenticity — making sure our messaging reflects who we are as a profession and community.

In short, I see my Bandung side as a strength in building a LAS presence that feels both aspirational and grounded, with just enough flair to keep things bold and engaging.

I hope to create something meaningful through my work and contribute to the library community.
