October 2011 Update
For the month of October, we have a few things that we can look forward to and our Special Libraries will be having their annual gathering in early November. The following is a quick summary of what’s happening:
IFLA WLIC 2013 – Congress Theme and Logo Contest
This is open to all LAS members – the congress theme should fit into the IFLA’s presidential theme – which for 2013 remains as “Libraries – A force for change“. You will need to create two versions of your logo design – one having the text “IFLA 2013 Singapore” and the other containing the texts “World Library and Information Congress: 79th IFLA General Conference and Assembly, 17-23 August 2013, Singapore”
Please make sure your designs are original works – you may submit them to the IFLA WLIC 2013 Secretariat currently fronted by Keat Fong and Petrina Ang (their contacts are keatfong@nlb.gov.sg and petrina_ang@nlb.gov.sg ). The dateline for submissions is 31 October 2011. The winner gets the prize of an IPAD 2. More details are available in the earlier email sent out by our Secretary to members.
Guest Speaker @ NTU Library
Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Library have invited the Univeristy Librarian of Hong Kong Polytechnic, Mr Steve O’Connor to speak about “Strategies for Success in Academic Libraries” – this event will take place on 20th October 2011, 3-5pm at their Library Instructional Commons N2-B3A-01. For those of you interested, please remember to register for the event via this link http://www3.ntu.edu.sg/lib/talks .
Asia Library Road Show
Springer will be organizing an Asia Library Road Show on the 27th October 2011 9am to 4pm at Pan Pacific Hotel. LAS members are welcome to attend the function. Please register with their representative Ms. Mandy Sum @ mandy.sum@springer.com .
Tour to Micrographics Data
This is a repeated program due to popular demand. This tour is scheduled for 22nd October 2011 (Saturday) – please refer to the links on our main page for registration. For the first time, we are offering places for non-members (but priority is given to LAS members) to attend this program.
SLS Networking Event
This year’s SLS networking event will be on 9 November 2011 and it would be held at the Singapore Management Univerisity (SMU) – please watch out for more details. This is an evening event (6 to 8pm) – so members with interest in Special Library networking are welcomed to join in. Nominations are open for the Special Librarian’s Passion Award which would be awarded at this event.
