Tour to Micrographics Data

The Programmes and Social Committee, LAS organised a field trip to Micrographics Data Pte Ltd on 25 Feb 2011.

Micrographics Data Pte Ltd is Asia’s leading micrographics & preservation solution provider since 1989. Areas of service includes but are not limited to ISO standard microfilming, professional large format and book colour scanning, archival/library/museum supplies, preservation & conservation services. As conservation and preservation is the key concern for most of the Librarians in Singapore, the tour to Micrographic Data had overwhelming response. A total of 39 LAS members turned up at the briefing room of Micrographics Data.

The session started at 3pm with a brief introduction on Micrographics Data by Samuel Ong, Managing Director of Micrographics Data, followed by two thematic presentations:

  • Josephine Pia, a Paper & Book Conservator, on “Conservation & Preservation of Library Materials”
  • Kelvin Emmanuel Ong, Director of Micrographics Data, on “A New Approach to Digital Preservation”

The one-hour session scheduled for the presentations and Q & A session was extended to one and a half hours as participants were keen in many aspects of conservation and preservation of library materials. Many questions were raised by participants with reference to print or digital collections.

At around 4.30pm, we were divided into two groups, guided by Kelvin Ong & Serene Ong, to tour on the factory facilities and services provided by Micrographics Data.
