Call for PDS Submission January 2015

Dear members,

Application for Practicing Professional (PP) under the LAS Professional Development Scheme (PDS) is now open. Successful applicants will qualify as PP for the period of 1 Jan 2015 to 31 Dec 2016. Please submit your application if your PP status has expired since June 2014 or if you are a new applicant.

The closing date of application is 12 Jan 2015.

The Revised scheme

We have revised the PDS to make it simpler for you to document your professional development activities. Instead of calculating points for activities, you now only need to count the number of activities you are engaged in during the same 2-year period – in this case from 1 Jan 2013 to 31 Dec 2014.

To qualify for the Practising Professional (PP) award under the Revised PDS, you need to fulfil ALL the following conditions:

  • Engage in at least 12 professional development activities in the 2-year qualification period.
  • Engage in activities from minimum of 3 out of 4 groups (A, B, C & D)
  • At least 2 of these activities must be from Group A (Compulsory group)

Please follow link to the revised PDS website <http://www.las.org.sg/wp/pds/>

Rationale for changes

Despite the changes, the philosophy behind PDS remains the same, i.e. to ensure that members engage in a minimum number of professional development activities that must be varied and not centred on a single type, such as only attending conferences.

An important change in the scheme is that it will not accept activities that do not fall strictly to the defined groups of activities specified. This approach is taken to minimize administrative work in managing the scheme due to manpower constraints in LAS. It is important to bear in mind that the PDS qualification certifies the minimum engagement in activities. Most qualified members would have engaged in more activities than prescribed.

We apologize for the lapse in application schedule. This was due to working out the details of the revised scheme as well as other pressing work commitments of the PDS Board and working committee.

If you have further queries, please email Secretary of PDS Board, Mrs Kim-Chew Ah Too at <pds@las.org.sg>

We look forward to your application.
