3D movies? Multi-touch tables with interactive games and applications? TVs with Cablevision programmes? All free? Yes, it is possible at the Lifestyle Library!
The Smart Cube and the Interactive Cube are the two latest additions to our Lifestyle Library and with them, we hope to add a new dimension of interactivity and collaboration to our students’ learning experience.
In the Smart Cube, students can access Smart TVs that allow easy access to digital contents from Internet TV, online apps, social networking sites, 3D movies and many other interactive games.
The Interactive Cube has two Heumi Interactive Multi-touch stations with educational games
and applications to enable our users to collaborate and interact in various new ways. Some of these games and applications were created by our own students. From games like Hungry Hippos and Whack A Mole to educational quizzes and 3D maps, work is seamlessly integrated with play in this Cube.
Both Cubes have been very popular with students as they find them a good place to socialize with friends over games and other forms of entertainment. As they are conveniently located in the Library, students find it easy to pop over for a quick session after classes or even between classes. What perhaps is also appreciated by them, is the availability of games and apps that challenge students to think out of the box and to brainstorm as a group for solutions to solve virtual problems.
Going forward, the Library aims to add more educational games and popular applications that will, as they say, blow our students’ socks off.
These are what some of our students and staff have to say about our Interactive and Smart Cubes:
“I like how multi-purpose the Interactive Cube is. I can watch videos and play games with my friends all at the same place! It’s also a cosy place to hang out! I love the high-definition TV in the Smart Cube as well. It makes the videos so much nicer to watch!” – Jem Ramos Purugganan, 2nd Year, Dip in Mass Comm.
“I like playing games at the Interactive Cube with my friends, especially the Hippo game. I also find it great that some of the games are actually created by Ngee Ann students and featured by the Library. As for the Smart Cube, it is a good place for me to hang out with my friends between classes. I can watch YouTube videos, play some games or simply just chill here.” – Lyron Ang, 2nd Year, Dip in Aerospace Electronics.
“The Interactive Cube has real potential in terms of lesson planning. I think my students would find learning more interesting if they are assigned to complete an interactive quiz here, as part of their revision. This would be even better if the quizzes can be customized according to the course. A change of scene is of course, always refreshing for the students. They do not have to stay in the classroom all the time.” – Kow Kok Seng, Lecturer, Sch of Interdisciplinary Studies.
